Halil Halid Bey as an Anti-Imperialist Ottoman Intellectual (1869-1931)

Kurtuluş ÖZTÜRK

Beginning from XVII. century, the westernization movements started in the military field and then expanded to administrative, economic, social, political fields and also affected the field of education. Towards the middle of the XIX century, it gained the opportunity to find a place and take shape alongside the traditional regime, way of thinking and social life. In order to correctly present the thought base of this movement, it is necessary to prepare the criticisms of the main sources of those thoughts, prepare and publish the biographies of the people who constituted the mindset of the period.

Caricatures of Atatürk

Prof. Mustafa ÇIKRIKÇI, Research: Hasan YAVUZCAN

Turkish caricature has fairly reached a richness of magazines and topics. One of the most important magazines of the 2nd Constitutional Era, in which dozens of caricatures magazines were published, is Karagöz. Karagöz Magazine, which continued until the first fifteen years of the Republic, is a quite long-running magazine. While the magazine told more about the period of Abdulhamid in the Ottoman era, it satirized the every problem of daily in Istanbul, made politics with its unique perspective, and told the Balkan War in a very special way after the 2nd Constitutional Era. In its publications during the War of Independence, the pages were frequently painted white, that is, it was frequently censored.

Turkish Republic of Western Thrace

Ahmet AYDINLI

At the beginning of the XX. century, the international system was marked by interstate power struggle, colonialism and nationalism movements, just as today, and especially the conflicts between France and Russia-Austria became increasingly unsolvable. Thus, the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, the Crown Prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, by a Serbian nationalist on June 28, 1914 put an end to this tension and the bloodiest page of the known human history up to that time was opened.

The Inside of Western Thrace Tragedy

Ahmet AYDINLI

In this small and humble work, these unknown phases were handled one by one, and in order to allow denial, the statistics and demographic information, which were seriously and sensitively based on the documents of domestic and foreign official sources, were presented to the reader. Furthermore, all kinds of details were avoided to the utmost, and events, facts, history, and names of persons were emphasized with persistence, meticulousness and seriousness.

The Great Disaster: Armenian Lies and The Essence of Truth, Research and Documents

Prof. Dr. Kamil Veli NERİMANOĞLU

The politics of the great powers bring about great wars, not great civilizations. People who feed themselves with grudge and hatred serve not God, but Satan. Since its creation, humanity has not attained enlightenment and peace with the use of any dissension, conflict or force of weapon. The steps taken to save the day or time temporarily have not created eternal comfort and peace. Unfortunately, the logic of blood for blood, to pour diesel instead of water to the fire has been the wrong way both yesterday and today. Despite all the technological and scientific developments they have made, human beings have also been turned into a mass who sell out their own people, country and moral values. In this dualism, truths lose, lies win.

Deep Anatolia

Nedim GÜRSEL

We are part of a land that was home to many civilizations. We are part of a nation that was envied not only for its strategic location, but also for its beauty. Anatolian history was shaped with invasions and conquests from Balkans, the Caucasus and Asia Minor and it witnessed many ‘firsts’ in the world history, on its land to many civilizations. Every corner of this land, where great empires were formed and destroyed, has different emotions. Anatolia, home to kings and sultans, is the center of the history and we are a part of this history.

Sea and Sailors

Güner DONAT

Human beings express their anxiety, sadness, pain, fear, joy, cheer, affection and love in different ways. It takes place sometimes through painting, sometimes through literature and sometimes through music. Since the ancient times, one of these methods has always been preferred to the extent of ability and pleasure. It is known that nations have a unique music that pulls their heartstrings. Just as each nation has a different music, it has music that has been developed over time in the same nation and created in different forms and styles. Although the music of the Turks comes from the same heart, we evaluate it under two main titles according to their different characteristics, classical and folk music.

Andalusian Poet And Writer Ibn Suheyd

Dr. Mustafa AYDIN

Andalusia has been the subject of many studies with its multicultural and ethnic nature, and as a center of Islamic thought and philosophy affecting the west. Although there are many studies on Andalusia in the west, there is almost no study on Andalusian history and culture in our country. Andalusian literature is one of the areas that has not been emphasized much. We decided to review and publish my PhD thesis titled "Ibn Suheyd and His Literary Personality", which I prepared in 1992, with the thought that it would contribute to the filling of this gap.

Traces from Different Cultures

Aliona PİLİCİ

By studying different cultures, I have selected a few works in folk literature. I approached every work I chose from my own point of view. I chose myths from Hittite and Chinese culture and enchantment prayers from Ukraine so that they can be shown with illustrations. To enrich the meanings of my illustrations, I studied folk motifs and their meanings, and I chose key symbols for each illustration. To reflect the spirit and culture of that period, I investigated the fonts used at the time and used similar fonts. I performed my work in Lino Engraving Technique. Engravings were printed on wood, stone, straw, leaves, soil and similar photographs taken on different surfaces. Thus I tried to give my work a historical flair.

Code Name: Journalist

Muzaffer BACA

Undoubtedly, journalism is one of the most difficult professions in the world. You watch the journalist on the battlefield trying to convey the most effective images and information to the reader or audience. You appreciate him, praise him by saying "How fearless he is". A few days later you see the same journalist at a cocktail party and ask about his impressions of the war. The essence of what you read is the same as what he tells. However, he will express many things better when he is telling.

Symposium of Ahmet Mithat Efendi in His 100th Death Anniversary

Prof. Dr. Kâzım YETİŞ

Perhaps the first name that comes to mind in the modernization and innovation in the 19th century is Ahmet Mithat Efendi. He did not only read and write, but also became the most read person in his time. How did he achieve this? This is a point to be considered, too. Of course, the fact that he was a tradesman, meaning he was among the ordinary people have a big share in this. He never separated himself from the people, he always spoke and wrote from their levels. More importantly, he provided useful information to them. In this respect, he has a big share in the enlightenment in the second half of the 19th century. In a sense, he is an encyclopedist. One can find everything in his works and writings

Prof. Dr. Yusuf HALAÇOĞLU, Prof. Dr. Ali ARSLAN

Even if we do not take into account the events of the 18th century, the Armenian issue is just one of the many problems the Ottoman Empire has experienced in the last century and the origin of the issue dates way earlier than 1915. In addition, it is not possible to explain the Armenian issue without considering of external influences and by only discussing the internal dynamics of the Ottoman Empire. Again, it is understood from the historical process that the events from 1915 to the present have emerged with the direction of many internal and external developments

Et-tevabi’ Ve'z-zevabi’ Ibn Suheyd

Prof. Dr. Nevzat H. YANIK, Dr. Mustafa AYDIN

It can be seen that the writer sometimes goes to an imaginary world away from the world he lives in and exhibits his dreams there so that he can express the ideals that did not come true in the real world and the sorrows he felt. This literary phenomenon, which can be called a metaphysical or imaginary journey, is not new. Since the ancient ages, people had attempted to invent a number of spiritual and intellectual interpretations to explain the universal facts happening around them.

Cults in the Turkish Mythology

Asst. Prof. Dr. Rövşen ALİZADE

Both nature cults and the cult system are scientific subjects that are not easy to examine. The cult is mythological system and involves complex rituals. The cult has been a part of the traditional thought and the culture that shaped it since its formation. This function of the cult continues today. In this sense, researching the cult system actually means investigating the complex and multifaceted level of cultural history.

The Life of Hafiz Ismail Efendi of Trabzon and His Scientific Personality

Prof. Dr. İbrahim Hakkı AYDIN

The lives and thoughts of those who have contributed or directed science, society and art have always drawn people's attention. Therefore, people wrote about their life experiences in the hope that they could become a light, an example for the generation that came after them. Various memoirs have been published in our history and will continue to be published. Therefore, with the intent of familiarizing and maintaining life styles and social values that are about to change and be forgotten, the avoided aspects of the past are explained before the history and public opinion, perhaps in order to fulfill one of the last duties and to be a light for future generations.
