Earthquake Safety Existing Structures Webinar

About 92% of our country's territory and about 96% of its population are located in areas with various degrees of earthquake risk. Both the earthquakes we experienced in historical periods and the earthquakes affecting Elazig and Izmir in 2020 have shown us that a significant part of our building stock lacks sufficient security against a possible earthquake. For this reason, the need to examine our existing structures in the dynamic domain for earthquake is revealed. However, in order to address the lack of information on how to ensure the earthquake resistance of a structure throughout the community, Istanbul Aydın University Disaster Training Application and Research Center (AFAM) conducted an earthquake safety Webinar of existing structures on December 24, 2020. According to the types of structures in Webinar (reinforced concrete, steel, masonry, etc.) how its resistance to a possible earthquake should be and the studies that need to be carried out to achieve a strength that can ensure minimum earthquake safety have been evaluated. The webinar is which was realized in cooperation with the project management Club of the Civil Engineering Department of our university, Director of AFAM Prof. Dr. Mehmet Fatih Altan and Construction Engineer Başak Boduroğlu Yazıcı attended as speakers.
