National Security and Earthquake Conference

The earthquakes that occurred 4.5 (Mw) on September 24, 2019 and 5.8 (Mw) on September 24, 2019 in Silivri off the Marmara Sea, once again brought up discussions on the effects of an earthquake in Istanbul. There are important opinions that an earthquake of magnitude to occur in Istanbul, one of the most important cities in the world with its population, contribution to the country's economy and cultural values, will be national security.

As Disaster Training Application and Research Center (AFAM), this issue was evaluated with a conference on October 16, 2019. To this conference organized in cooperation with National Security and Strategy Application and Research Center (USAM), which continues its studies within our university, USAM director Assoc. Prof. Şevket Ayaz and Yıldız Technical University Natural Sciences Research Center President Prof. Dr. The moderator of the conference, which Şükrü Ersoy attended as a speaker, was AFAM coordinator Serhat Yılmaz. At the conference, where Prof. Dr. Şükrü Ersoy shared all the details of the expected Istanbul earthquake and a possible tsunami danger, Assoc. Prof. Şevket Ayaz talked about the dangers of earthquakes in terms of national security, and AFAM Coordinator Serhat Yılmaz informed about the basic principles of disaster mitigation to participants.
