FROM IAU PR CLUB STUDENTS OPEN LETTER
TO PUBLIC RELATIONS
SECTOR AND PUBLIC
‘’BE AWARE OF MY PROFESSION’’
Public relations is a management function that provides and maintains mutual communication,
understanding, acceptance and cooperation between the organization and the groups to which it is
related. It especially creates the corporate image, strengthens and provides that the institution
is accepted by the society, it is the communication discipline that cares for the public interest
as well as the interests of the institution and plays an important role in the creation of the public.
It is a profession that requires many competencies and skills and has important roles and duties
within the organization.
With the rapid development of new communication technologies, institutions’ entering the
competitive environment worldwide has increased the need for public relations studies. It is
very difficult for organizations which can not manage their communication processes with their
target groups to maintain their services. In this context, public relations of which application
area is constantly expanding, is a necessity nowadays and it is a requirement of every institution.
However, if public relations which undertake important duties and responsibilities about
image and reputation of other organizations, failing to build and maintain its own professional
image and reputation as it deserves, is not correctly defined, explained and
interpreted, it causes serious problems. Especially that small and mid-sized enterprises, which are not
aware of our profession, confuse them with other professions, misidentification of those who
are aware of them and wrong assignment of professional practitioners pose a big problem. For
this reason, our profession is perceived incorrectly by the society and has different
evaluations. We also expect that professional organizations and industry representatives should
not ignore this problem and bring it to the agenda and produce a solution.
Therefore, as the "IAU PR Club" where Istanbul Aydin University Faculty of
Communication Public Relations and Publicity Department students work, we are calling out to
the industry and the public: "BE AWARE OF MY PROFESSION!"
With this project, we aim to bring perception to the problem of our profession and create
awareness with various communication strategies.
With our promotional films, we have
prepared with an amateur spirit, we tried to make it clear that our profession was not actually
"what" with a language that every segment could understand.
