
With the development and diversification of technology in the area of communication in recent
years, technologies connected to “new media” have become an important industry in the world.
Therefore, in the context of new media, there was a requirement to improve the areas of
academic approach, theory and practice. With the "New Media Application and Research
Center", it is aimed to fulfil this requirement. In the center, it is aimed to be examine scientifically and as a result of the research-examination delivering the outputs to the masses
with qualified reports and articles of new media literacy and dynamics’ (social media- social
networks, digital platforms) which produce solutions to the problems of the individual in the
area and attached to ethical values in the context of world and country realities. In accordance
with this purpose, in addition to scientific qualified theoretical information in the area it is
planned to perform application and researches on the realization of all stages of planning,
preparation, educating, and marketing of original works, creative projects and derivatives in the
area of social media. In this direction, it is planned that the Center provides academic support
for educational programs and scientific researches conducted in these departments, especially in the
area of ‘’New Media’’. New Media Application and Research Center established within
Istanbul Aydın University; consists of three structures as education, sector and academic.
In the educational structure, it is planned to contribute and support the departments and centers
within the university in the context of education. Especially with the "New Media and
Communication Systems Undergraduate Program" which is newly opened, it is aimed that
“New Media Graduate Programs” support practical and academic studies in academic
education. Practical seminars and workshops will be organized which have qualification to
support student projects. In the context of nonstudent resources, it is planned to support the
educations to be prepared about the area of digital media with IAU Continuing Education
Center.
In the sector structure, it is planned to provide source from Development Agencies in order to
develop projects in cooperation with companies having a voice in the area of new media and to
turn them into nonstudent resources. Also, in the sector, it is planned to organize social
responsibility studies, seminars and conferences and projects created with Non-governmental Organizations and public institutions. Providing sector
relations as an external stakeholder to our University will also provide resources for the labor
force needed by the sector.
The academic structure, by transforming into academic studies with education, projects, digital
designs, applied experiences and their outputs which will be discussed with qualitative and
quantitative researches it can both make solutions and evaluations to current problems and it is
planned to be published in the International Refereed New Media Electronic Journal which is
created within Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Communication.
With VR Lab (Visual Reality Lab) which has been established in center, it is aimed to examine scientifically and as a result of the research-examination delivering the outputs to the masses
with qualified reports and articles of new media literacy and dynamics’ (social media- social
networks, digital platforms) which produce solutions to the problems of the individual in the
area and attached to ethical values in the context of world and country realities. In accordance
with this purpose; practical studies will be produced, it is planned to make analyzes in the light
of these digital data produced and get outputs from the produced studies. As a result, new media
which is a prominent area in today's communication environment, can not be used properly and
correctly. Brands and agencies are in competition for employing creative and knowledgeable
individuals who can use social media and the ones can produce. In this context, with the "New
Media Application and Research Center" planned to be established, students of the departments
will develop both in the cognitive sense in the new media area and the application in the
"Technology Center" within the University. This will allow them to “grow one step ahead of
the profession”.
