International Conference, entitled as "Regional Cooperation in the Black Sea: Opportunities and Challenges", was jointly organized by UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Peace and Dimitrie Cantemir University (Romania), with the participation of Ambassador Michael B. Christides as a keynote speaker. The conference had three different sessions and the prospects for regional cooperation were analyzed from political, economic and cultural perspectives at the subsequent panels.
- Title: UNESCO and Civil Society Contributions to Sustainable Development: Culture, Education and Science
Date and Place: 23 March 2017, Lütfi Kırdar Kongre Merkezi, Istanbul
"UNESCO and Civil Society Contributions to Sustainable Development: Culture, Education and Science" Rountable was jointly organized by UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Peace and UNESCO Chair in Cultural Diplomacy, Governance and Education, as a side event of 2017 Eurasian Higher Education Summit. The roundtable provided a platform to share the experiences of UNESCO Chairs, NGOs, International Organizations and higher education institutions and identify possible areas for future partnerships in sustainable development efforts.

Date and Place: 5 December 2016, Belgrade, Serbia
UNESCO Chair Holder on Education for Sustainable Peace, Assist. Prof. Dr. Özüm Sezin Uzun, participated to EURAS Conference and EURIE Training Workshop and delivered a speech on the opportunities and challenges for collaboration between Turkey and the Balkan countries in higher education, entitled as "Scientific Cooperation and Higher Education: Reflections on Turkey and Balkan Countries."

Conference, which was entitled as “No Lost Generation,” was co-organized by
International Blue Crescent, UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Peace
and Department of Political Science and International Relations, İstanbul Aydın
University. Speakers discussed the plight of Syrian youth refugees and their
access to education and options for integration in the Turkish society. Speakers
also introduced legal issues in enrolling into schools and universities, and opportunities
for services and scholarships for Syrian refugees. The first speaker, Assist.
Prof. Dr. Gülay Uğur Göksel, from the Department of Political Science and
International Relations, İstanbul Aydın University, gave a general overview
about the current status of refugees, focusing on recent statistics about the
Syrian refugees in Turkey and the challenges that Syrian youth faces with in
accessing either to formal or informal education. The second speaker, Zehra
Sağlam, lawyer at Turkish Bar Association, spoke about the current legal
options for integration of Syrian youth in Turkey such as scholarship
opportunities, enrolment policies in schools. The third speaker, Nur Eldin Al
Musilli, Syrian refugee student in Turkey, who is 18 years old and studying
12th grade High School in Imam Hatib School Istanbul – Sultanbeyli. His talk
was about his personal story and the details about the education and working
conditions in Turkey. The last speaker was Mustafa Al Khatib, who is a Syrian student
living in Turkey, 21 years old, and is second grade in Trakya University,
Edirne, in the Department of Political Science and International Relations. He gave
a motivational/ inspirational speech about his personal experiences.
