Purpose and Content

The aim of the course Introducing to the details of textile raw materials for textile engineering students
Course Content Definition and classification of textile raw materials, natural fibers, production technologies, and obtaining supplies, chemical and physical properties of natural fibers, and the use of microscopic analysis.

1Definitions and descriptions of fiber material, expected items from textile fiber,the classification of all types of fibers and natural fibers,
2Physical and chemical structure and properties of natural fibers
3Vegetable fibers, seed fibers, cotton production, properties and application areas
4Brief history and importance of cotton fiber, cotton fiber production in the world and in Turkey,
5Ginning process of cotton, and basic principles, and machines of ginning
6Cotton fiber properties and standardization. Other seed fibers, kapok fibers and fruit fibers
7Production and preparations of sap (bast) fibers, flax, hemp, jute, ramie fibers and flax fiber properties, application areas
8Midterm exam
9Animal fibers, the general classification of structure and properties
10Brief history of wool fibers, wool producers and importing countries
11Types of wool and characteristics, camel hair, rabbit fur
12Mohair, lama,cashmere, alpaca fibers and vicuna, cattle and horse hair etc. fibers,
13Brief history of silk , silk cocoon and silk production from the wild silk
14Drawing silk, features, uses, designs and screed of silk and mineral fibers, asbestos and special fibers
