Purpose and Content

The aim of the course Obtaining the ability to solve problems that encountered in Industrial applications.
Course Content Tension, compression. Shear stresses. Nornal stress and strain; Stress-strain diagrams.Linear elasticity, Hooke Law, Safety issues in strength of materials. Sress concentration. Thermal effects, Simple torsion, Torsion of circular cross-sections, Power transmission in circular shafta, Pressure in thin and thick walled tıbes, Shear and bending moment diagrams in simple bending. Bucling oc the columns.

1General concepts of strength of materials.
2Axial normal force in isostatic systems
3The effect of the self-weight on stress and strain.
4Stresses arising from the internal pressure in thin-walled pressure vessels.
5Indeterminate systems under axial normal force.
6Examples for statically determinate and indeterminate systems under axial normal force.
7Analysis of the systems under shear force and riveting calculations
8Midterm exam.
9Stress analysis in one dimension and drawing of Mohr circle. Stress analysis in two dimension and drawing of Mohr circle.
10Strain in the elements under axial load and solutions of the samples.
11Moments of inertia calculation in orthogonal coordinates.
12Drawing of N,Q,M diagrams.

14Torsion and its applications Bucling and its application.
