Purpose and Content

The aim of the course In the course; The definition of the new media in communication studies, the usage areas and related theories are transferred to the students and it is aimed to gain different perspectives. The studies and researches on new media are explained and the theories produced are interpreted and transmitted to the students.
Course Content In the course; It is aimed to transform the ideas that students will produce in the light of information that they have taken theoretically. It is another aim of the course to provide a sound observation and expression power in the theoretical and applied fields and to create environments in which to produce original works.

Weekly Course Subjects

1The concept of media in the framework of technological approaches.
2Harold Innis and Marshall McLuhan's exploration of the work done, assessment of technological theories.
3Explanation of Walter Ong's view of the media with technological approaches in the framework of Critical Approaches.
4Max Horkheimer and Theodor Adorno examine the development process of the media in the direction of their work.
5Explanation of the adaptations of science and technological developments that Jurgen Habermas dealt with to the media.
6From Herbert Marcuse and Neil Postman's point of view, tell the process from the mass media to the present day media.
7Midterm
8Introduction to new media studies conducted in communication field and interpretation as general evaluation.
9To examine and discuss media studies with Jean Baudrillard's point of view.
10To explain the concept of "Network Society" gathered by the production of Manuel Castells' different perspectives and to discuss the concept of "Information Age" in the same frame.
11To describe the new media with Lev Manovich's view.
12Explanation of knowledge-based economy. The concept of "e-paradigm" is explained and evaluated through current examples.
