Purpose and Content

The aim of the course This course is designed to introduce students to the effective speaking techniques and the fundamentals of announcing for broadcast news media; evaluate and develop their announcing and presenting skills for a professional career in TV journalism and programming.
Course Content The course will be comprised of a combination of theory and hands-on experience in television announcing.

Weekly Course Subjects

1Overview of syllabus, test to explore diction problems of students, talking about (expressing) agenda and improvised speech exercises.
2Elements of speaking (breath, voice, phonetics and articulation).
3Diction rules in Turkish speaking.
4Rules and exercises of narrowing wide vowels just in speaking, liaison in Turkish speaking, long and short vowels.
5Stressing in words and sentences, intonation.
6Intonation practices with different types of texts.
7Common mistakes in Turkish.
8Roles and qualities of news presenters and anchors, fundemantals of broadcast announcing.
9Different types of news leads in broadcast announcing.
10Talking about (expressing) agenda.
11Opening/closing announces, announces of flash news, long and uninterrupted flash news broadcasting, interview techniques, good and bad cases.
12Live from scene, live anchors, ethical problems in live broadcasting, good and bad cases.
13Practices in broadcast announcing.
14Practices in broadcast announcing.
