Purpose and Content

The aim of the course Defines the concept of Islamic art. Criticizes, compares and interprets of historical development and architecture, crafts and decorative features. basic characteristics of Islamic art analyzes according to periods.Compares artifacts according to the historical development.
Course Content Identify and interpret Examples of Turkish and Islamic Architecture Mosques,tomb, madrasa, darushifa, baths,caravanserais, palaces, kiosks,castle and shipyards, Turkish tile and ceramics,minyatures,carpets, weavings, fabric ,mine, Illumination Art ,handcarved and Wall paintings.

2Great SeljukArchitecture: Mosque, tomb and madrasa examples.
3Anatolian,Seljuk Architecture: Mosque, tomb and madrasas ,darushifa, caravanserais, Palace, kiosks,castle and shipyard
4Ottoman Architecture: Mosques, tombs, madrasas, darushifa, baths, caravanserais and palaces.
5Tile and ceramic techniques and examples in Islamic Art
6Tile and ceramic art techniques and examples in Anatolian Seljuk and Ottoman periods
7Turkish and Islamic miniature art and artists.
8Seljuk and Ottoman Carpet(rug) Art examples, color and design features
9Midterm exam.
10Turkish weaving typology:Kilims, Cicim Zili(sili) and Sumac weavings.The symbolic meanings of the motifs.
11Turkish fabric Art: : Fabric typology and examples, fabric weaving centers.
12Mine Art techniques, forms and samples.
13Illumination Art: Examples of illumination, gilding and caligraphy masters , manuscripts and Nakkashane.
14Kalemisi(handcarved) ornaments and tecniques in Turkish Architecture.Samples of Kalemisi and wall paintings in architecture in Anatolia and Rumelia.
