Purpose and Content

The aim of the course The aim of this course is to introduce the rules and theories of classical literature and their transition from the modernization period to the Western oriented rhetoric.
Course Content The main features of "belagat" based on the classical Turkish literature are analyzed. The principles of Western rhetoric dating back to Aristotle and its crossovers with "belagat" are identified. The aspects borrowed from the Western rhetoric in the Modernization period are presented and the works on their adaptation are analysed.

1The rise of rhetoric as Greek science and art, parts of rhetoric, works of Aristotle on this subject, the mainly development of Western rhetoric.
2The birth of Arabic “belagat” as the source of classical Turkish literature, the systematization, parts and early examples of it.
